As I finish out the year, I think about that phrase and how thankful I am to have been there for so many different kinds of celebrations. I get to be there for so many bliss fests. It’s so great.

This family and I just had our tenth shoot together. I feel like I’m an honorary family member. The honor is all mine.

…that’s my favorite quote from this video. So lovely. When my husband proposed, he played this for me, asked me to dance and said, “as long as I can be with you, it’s a lovely day.” When he knelt down, I started saying yes before he could ask.

After a really tough time when we lost a baby, he wrote me the most beautiful love letter that said he would love me in sunshine and shade. This is our 12th year together and I hope he always feels that way. Maybe that’s why this video really resonates with me, as all love does.

These two have entered a contest via Snippet & Ink to win fabulous engagement photos with ABryan Photo in New York. You can click here and vote for Lauren if you want them to win. I love this so much.

I photographed some of my favorite people this weekend. One of the boys likes to lead me around because I am a sucker and I will pretty much give him whatever he wants. He’s right. Also, he gives really good cuddles.

I finished the shoot when he wandered over and plopped down in my lap. Sigh. So sweet.

Just when I think he’s my favorite of the day, his twin brother does something equally endearing, like telling me stories about how he’s planting carrots and how there could be a storm. He will dig lots of dirt to make a safe home for them so that the Were-Rabbit doesn’t come to get them. As you can see, this is very serious business.

They are the most loving, precious boys and their parents are pretty amazing people, too. I’m really blessed to know them.

I edit photographs late at night. I wear headphones and listen to podcasts of people telling stories. When the house is still at 2:00 a.m., I am usually clicking and saving and deleting images where eyes are closed.

Recently, my husband {and second shooter} was out of town. I was finishing up a folder when I saw these two lovely, quiet images that he took at Brian and Stephanie’s wedding reception of the bride’s sister and her husband, nephew and little one on the way. I was so proud of him for being the kind of person who notices these moments. And the images really moved me in a way that photography should. I felt so thankful for him, for art, for the way this couple looks at each other and, in the words of Paper Boat Photography’s first official bride Emily, “I may have cried a little.”

Anyone can fall in love. But there is something so magical to me about photographs of people who still find a moment look at each other like these two amidst the trenches of parenthood. I hope they don’t mind me saying so, but I think they are so beautiful. And so romantic.

I didn’t watermark these because I wanted to thank them for reminding me that romance is not just for the bride and groom. It’s for all of us.

If you haven’t been, plan a trip soon to Cuppa: A Tea Cafe at 591 Short Street on the corner of Short Street and Jefferson Street in downtown Lexington, KY.

I’ve been to a lot of tea rooms, but never one quite like this. You won’t find suffocating chintz or fake flowers or thick table cloths. It’s peaceful and clean and simple. Go once and when you return, you’ll be treated like Norm walking into Cheers. I can highly recommend Lisa’s Latte {made with gold tea, frothy soy milk, local honey} and a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich, or a strawberry scone or a dark chocolate brownie.

I’ve heard that a lot of people go to Starbucks for the experience. I’m telling you, once you go to Cuppa, you’ll want to return for both the flavors AND the experience. It’s like being with good friends. Did I mention they have coffee, too? And you can pick your tea cup to use while you are there.
