Inspiration from Jay-Z

I’m a fan. Have been since Izzo. His interview in O Magazine this month is great.

Favorite quotes:

j

O: {on what she and Jay have in common} But the biggest common thread is that we’ve both become successful by being ourselves.

Jay-Z: There’s nothing worse than becoming successful as someone else.

{ yes }

O: Many of the little boys who grew up in the Marcy projects are either in jail or dead.  Why do you think you got to grow up and buy your mom a house?

Jay-Z: There’s the gift, there’s the spirit, and there’s the work – all three have to come together. If one of those things is off, it can stop you from becoming who you were meant to be.

This to me sounds like a prescription for a tune up – is the gift there? is the spirit there? is the work there? Which ones are off. Which ones need change to become who I was meant to be.

This amazing Anna Kuperburg shoot is the perfect example of gift, spirit and work all being in sync.

Apropos of nothing, how totally brill are these note cards?

AND, this is maybe the most romantic photo shoot ever from my all-time favorite photog. Jose Villa.
