Drinking: Teavana’s Eastern Chamomile loose tea
Listening to: Jose Gonzalez, Hand On Your Heart
I never thought about music as being seasonal until I met my husband. He would make mixes to accompany novels he was reading, or trips he was taking. DJ Shadow’s Preemptive Strike {for example} was coupled with Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian. The book was chosen because he was going out West, so it all fits. Elliott Smith’s Figure 8 is music for Fall just as Tamba’s We & The Sea is music for Summer and so on. You can play at home. Bob Marley is music for _____. 10,000 Maniacs is music for _____. You get the idea.
So, here on our last day of January, I’ve been thinking about what is the perfect music for February, and I think it might be {after all of my favorite Jazz albums} Jose Gonzalez. I listen to Jose Gonzalez a lot when I’m editing photos. He can take anything and make it sound profound…like a Kylie Minogue song, for example.
Other favorites – his cover of Massive Attack’s Teardrop and my ALL TIME fave, his cover of The Knife’s Heartbeats.
