I recently photographed one of my all-time favorite families. I’m working on editing their images today, but wanted to publish a quick post about the dad, Quincy Murdock. He is a Freedom Writer teacher and the only one from Kentucky to be featured in the New York Times Bestseller Teaching Hope: Stories from the Freedom Writer’s Teachers by Erin Gruwell with forward by Anna Quindlen. He will be signing books at Joseph-Beth Booksellers on Thursday September 10th at 7:00 pm at their book signing event.
I am so excited for their family and even more excited to know people like Quincy and Mwabi who are raising children, teaching and writing. I don’t often meet people who love each other the way they do and who parent in such an easy going way. Their work with children and in print gives me a sense of hope about the future. {Mwabi is a writer and sometimes teaches as well.} Quincy had to meet us at the shoot site and as soon as Mwabi saw him walking over to us, her face lit up from the inside out. They’ve been together since 1995. That kind of romance is the most moving to me.
